Cozumel

Cozumel (‘Kùutsmil’ or ‘Cuzamil’; meaning ‘the island of te swallows’ in the Mayan language) an island in the Caribbean coast, right in front of Playa del Carmen. Being 48km long and 16km wide it is the largest permanently inhabited island of México. The first immigrants were believed to be the Mayan pilgrims looking for shelter. The islanders were honoring their moon, love and fertility Goddess ‘Ixchel’ by building temples to her. In return she sent her favorite birds, the swallows, as a gesture (therefore the name).

The island became famous in the 1960’s by a French oceanographer Jaques Cousteau. Divers from around the World became interested of its steep walls and healthy corals. Since 1996 the reefs have been under the federal protection and since 2005 Cozumel has been a National Park.

Cozumel Direct. We use te most efficient way to get to the island by using the local speedboats, by simply avoiding the hassle with the ferries. Leaving in the morning the boat navigates directly to the federal protected area for two dives and then immediately returns to Playa del Carmen.

TDI Open Water Sidemount

The TDI Open Water Sidemount Diving course is designed to teach divers to properly use twin cylinders in sidemount configuration for open water diving activities. It will discuss the configuration and the peripheral equipment, as well as accessories and maintenance.

As well as building a solid foundation on Buoyancy, Trim and Position /Propulsion.

Cenotes

Experience the magic of the underground and underwater world with us through the Cenotes.
Cenotes (‘Ts’onot’ in Mayan meaning ‘a whole filled with water’) are natural sinkholes formed by the collapse of the limestone base that has groundwater underneath. The acidic water dissolves through the limestone cracks and eventually creates a sinkhole. They can be seen as the connections of the surface waters and subterranean waters. In the Mayan Riviera of Yucatan Peninsula we have thousands of Cenotes yet most not even found or known yet. For the moment the longest underwater cave system in the World (Sac Aktun) is also found in the Caribbean coast of México.

Cavern Diving

Due to the rainwater filtering through the ground there are almost no particles in the water and an almost endless visibility. Speleothems like stalagmites and stalactites are also found in most of the Cavern zones. The caverns have cooler water (+24-25C/75-77F), less direct sun penetrating and not always direct ascent to the surface. For cavern diving (staying within the natural daylight) on most of the divesites we require a minimum of the Open Water certification.

Discover Scuba Diving

Never dove before? This program is meant for divers with no previous experience. It consists of a theory class (physics of diving, equipment use, hand signals, explanation of basic skills) and pool training session (basic skills). We include two shallow (max. depth 12m/40ft) dives to this experience.

Open Water Diver Course

A three day course in which the students will learn the basics of scuba diving focusing on good Buoyancy, Trim and Position.

Upon completion of the program the graduate will be able to plan consecutive dives to a depth not greater than 60 feet/18 meters.

As well as the correct set up and use of DIR equipment.

BullShark Diving

The Bullsharks (Carcharhinus Leucas) are found in the warm shallow waters, coastlines and rivers. They are known to be the only type of sharks being able to habit in fresh and salt water. The name comes from it’s ‘bulky’ shape and behavior.

Through generations the female Bullsharks have been coming in the winter season (Nov-Feb) to give birth in Riviera Maya. In the coastal area we have plenty of shallow fresh water ‘fisheries’ (mangrove forests) where the pregnant females are believed to leave their pups. As viviparous animals, the Bull sharks are growing inside their mothers and born alive. After born, they are ready to hunt.

The dives we organize will be ‘observation’ only type of diving, we do not feed them. We will always provide a thorough briefing, explain all the safety procedures and go through their biology and behavior.

The Bull shark dive will be conducted in the ‘Shark point’ (sandy patch) during the official observation hours. We will plunge for a shallow reef dive afterwards.

TDI FULL CAVE DIVER

This course is the third stage of overhead environment training in the series of TDI’s Full Cave Diver Development Program. Advanced cave dive planning, practical execution of different types of cave systems and scenarios divers encounter are presented. This cave diving course is not intended to prepare divers for evaluating all facets of cave diving. The objective of this course is to expand and critique previous skills accomplished in the TDI Cavern and Introductory Cave Diving programs. Emphasis is placed upon dive planning and skill perfection through actual cave penetration.

Recreational Foundations

This systematic learning and professional training is designed to enhance the student’s personal and team underwater skills. Development of buoyancy, trim and propulsion. Refine and expand fundamental diving skills. Equipment Streamlining and introduction to the Hogarthian configuration (Backplate, harness and wing + 2m/7ft long hose.) Diving safety, situational awareness and accident prevention. Enhanced Dive planning and gas management.

TDI CAVERN DIVER

Are you a serious adventure seeker wishing to explore overhead environments? Sign up for the TDI Cavern Diver course!This course is designed to develop the minimum skills and knowledge for cavern and overhead environment diving within the limits of light penetration, and outline specific hazards associated with cave diving. The cavern diver course in not intended to provide instruction for cave diving environments. The objective of this course is to train divers in the proper planning, procedures, techniques and hazards of cavern diving.

The objective of this course is the perfection of skills taught in the cavern diving program, in addition to the adoption of additional techniques and procedures required for elementary cave dives.

Cave Diving

The caves around the area provide us multiple options for different types of cave dives. The caves are the extended parts of the Caverns, where the natural sunlight is not penetrating anymore, where restrictions might be found, the navigation will include more tasks and the way to the exit will obviously be further. For cave diving, a Full Cave Diver certification is a minimum requirement. Around the coast we have plenty of different navigations to choose from.

A day of cave diving through us consists of two shorter dives or one longer dive, depending on the level of one’s certification, depth of that particular system, penetration time and gas strategies.

Enriched Air Nitrox

A dry certification (no dive involved).

Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to use enriched Air as well as plan dives with longer No decompression limits and shorter surface intervals.

Participants will learn how measure the mix of gas in the tank and also calculate the Maximum Operating Depth for that particular mix.

Local Reef Dives

The mesoamerican Barrier Reef is the second largest reef system in the world. It goes from the tip of Yucatán Peninsula(isla contoy), through Belize, Guatemala all the way until Honduras (Bad Islands).
The reef provides home for hundreds of different fish, mollusk & coral species. The reef system is also partly protected and has quite a few National Parks (Belize Barrier Reef, Cozumel National Park, Sian Ka’an Biosphere etc.).
The local reefs allow divers from different levels to enjoy it’s diverse marine life and corals. The shallow dives are often packed with schools of fish and bigger animals can be seen in the deeper waters (Eagle rays, Bull sharks etc.)
The local boat dives through us are made to fit the level of the divers and the local weather conditions. The variety of the reefs allos us to choose the best spots each day.

Advanced Buoyancy Control

The Advanced Buoyancy Control, Trim and Technique Program is designed to train divers in the benefits and proper procedures for mastering buoyancy control at all times. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may effectively increase their comfort level and their safety by fine-tuning their trim, position, kicking techniques and buoyancy in any diving environment.

It could be done in DIR single tank configuration or in doubles, making it a great tool for those divers thinking of getting into technical/cave diving.
